QuickBooks construction edition
The QuickBooks construction edition, explained
Intuit has added construction tools to Intuit Enterprise Suite and QuickBooks Online Advanced. Here is what it is, who it fits, and what to do before you switch it on.
The short version
- Where it lives: Intuit Enterprise Suite (IES), and as an add-on for QuickBooks Online Advanced.
- Built for: mid-market construction businesses.
- Announced: February 11, 2026, with a beta for IES customers in construction.
- Includes: project budgeting, cost groups, proposals and AIA-style invoicing, per Intuit and trade coverage.
What I do about it
A new feature does not fix messy books. If your cost codes, jobs and vendors are inconsistent today, the construction tools will organize the mess, not clean it. Before you switch anything on, I get the file clean and make sure your jobs, items and accounts are set up the way the new tools expect.
I work with IES every day. I can tell you whether the construction edition fits your company, and when staying on your current plan makes more sense. Compare the QuickBooks plans.
Common questions
What is the QuickBooks construction edition?
Intuit announced it on February 11, 2026 as a construction edition of Intuit Enterprise Suite (IES), built for mid-market construction businesses. The same construction capabilities are also offered as a module for QuickBooks Online Advanced.
What does it cost?
Intuit said the capabilities were available in beta for IES customers in the construction industry at no additional cost, and generally available as a paid add-on for QuickBooks Online Advanced customers. Intuit has said pricing may change, so ask before you buy.
What does it add?
Reporting on Intuit's launch and trade coverage lists project budgeting and tracking, cost groups for labor, materials and equipment, proposals, and AIA-style invoicing.
Do I need IES or QuickBooks Online Advanced to use it?
According to Intuit, it is part of IES and an add-on for QuickBooks Online Advanced. If you are on a lower QuickBooks Online plan, that is a conversation about moving up first, and about getting the books clean before you do.
Is it worth it for a small contractor?
It depends on how you bill and how many jobs you run. If you do progress or AIA-style billing and need job budgets, it may fit. If you run a handful of simple jobs, QuickBooks Online Plus may already do what you need. I will tell you honestly which side you are on.
